Dear Irving Elementary School Community,

I am pleased to share with you that Principal Michael Weaver is being recommended for a promotion in the District to the position of Human Resources Manager. Mike is a highly respected principal working on an advanced degree and this opportunity supports his continued growth in the district while providing the district with much needed support in leading human resources responsibilities.

In our budget reductions two years ago, we eliminated the Director of Human Resources position as a cost-saving measure. Given our improving financial situation and the fact that we have 1,000 employees we feel it is necessary to have a position that specifically focuses on human resources functions. An example of why this position is needed now is the ongoing teacher shortage problem in specific areas. We need to design and implement a talent development strategy so we can compete for and hire the best teachers for our classrooms.

Mike Weaver will be an excellent fit for this role. He knows the district well, understands the importance of having great teachers in all of our classrooms, and brings the energy and passion to get the very best for all of the children we serve.

This change means that there is a principal opening at Irving Elementary School and we know Mike will be difficult to replace especially at this time of the summer. Rather than conduct a search and go through the hiring process now, we are recommending that Chris Gosch, the current academic dean at Irving be assigned as the interim principal for the 2017-2018 school year. This provides Chris with an opportunity to grow as a leader and the change provides continuity of leadership in the Irving program.

We will conduct a search for the permanent principal at Irving in the spring of 2018. This search will include input from staff and parents. Chris Gosch along with other current district leaders and external candidates will have an opportunity to apply.

Please join me in congratulating Mike and Chris as they take new professional steps in our district to serve our community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marty Lexmond
